This modern Organic Pueblo masterpiece, situated in Whisper Rock, pushes the boundaries of where southwestern architecture meets modern luxury in North Scottsdale, Arizona.

Located in a guard-gated community, the site is a flat, low lot that required considerable creativity to achieve the golf course views the clients were dreaming of. This site-specific residence was designed to blend in with the surrounding boulder formations. The clay tile roof, the Sedona Stack stone, and huge standing deadwood vigas welcome you into a mystical desert retreat.

The materials used throughout the interior and the exterior of the home represent the surrounding landscape. Upon entering the handmade, decorative iron and wood southwestern-style gates, the front courtyard welcomes visitors to a sitting area featuring a fireplace and Autumn Gold flagstone floors, which transition seamlessly from the outside into the inside of the home.

The entranceway opens into the great room with a view of the backyard and pool. The stone wall continues from the courtyard into the living room and becomes the fireplace feature wall. Elegant details abound, such as glass insets in the sturdy vigas surrounding the dining area seen from the front elevation.

Throughout the main floor, the ceiling slopes creating a view of both the kitchen and the backyard from the upstairs art studio. Heavy timber accents the kitchen and holds up a plaster hood and a distinctive island. The builder created the island using an oil drum that had been buried for 20 years. The aging process gave the metal surface just the right amount of pitting, a perfect highlight to this rustic-meets-modern gathering space. Neutral, hand-crafted tiles throughout the kitchen flow into the organic-shaped wall niches that lead from one living space to another.

Copper ceilings with wood beams provide a seamless transition from the great room and the indoor kitchen to the back patio’s rustic outdoor kitchen. An organic-shaped pool with a rock wall and spill waterfalls brings the natural and warm aesthetic of the interior to the outdoor space.

The residence boasts an eight-car showcar garage downstairs and a three-car everyday garage. A sitting area includes a big screen TV and bar featuring rows of collectable miniature cars. A brick accent wall in the garage was added to remind the owner of the old car dealership buildings in his home state of California.

A mystical masterpiece like this represents the idyllic desert-living lifestyle that many people are searching for. With modern details blended with inspirational pueblo architecture, the owners will enjoy entertaining their out-of-town guests for years to come.
