The LEED Dream Home had to meet a lot of requirements. It needed to be functional for a busy, a growing family of four, while still obtaining LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum certification. We also wanted to make sure it was still a creative showpiece that expressed the family’s modern aesthetic. The plan has public and private wings connected by a glass corridor surrounded by covered courtyards on each side. Opening the kitchen, dining, and living spaces to the main patio and BBQ, allow for an open concept public wing. One end of the private wing contains the master suite & patio, while the children’s bedrooms, playroom, and play yard are on the opposite side. In order to separate the private wing, we used a corten steel clad mass wall. Nestling the home into the desert site opens it to amazing mountain views, which can be seen from all the public & outdoor spaces and the master suite.
