World Green Building Week 2020

World Green Building Week (WGBW) – September 21-25, 2020 – is once again upon us! It is an annual campaign, promoted by the World Green Building Council, which aims to motivate and empower everyone to deliver greener buildings. This year, they are asking everyone to #ActOnClimate. They are calling on the building sector, policymakers, and governments to take urgent action to deliver net-zero buildings and for them to provide a showcase for those leaders already taking action to show where, why, and how they are achieving it.

World Green Building Week

“Buildings are our planet’s largest consumers of energy,” said CEO of the World Green Building Council, Cristina Gamboa. “Measures to reduce consumption and energy waste in buildings offer the fastest way to unlock carbon savings, but they are often overlooked and deprioritized.” She continued, “As we overcome the immediate and long-term impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, we must focus on resilience. Net-zero building can benefit people, economies, and the planet and must form a part of the bold and decisive action necessary to tackle the climate emergency.”

Why do we need to #ActOnClimate?

This is a crucial time for tackling the climate crisis. Countries worldwide are declaring climate emergencies, with calls for a decade of urgent, accelerated action towards 2030 net-zero targets. Industry awareness and accountability are at all-time highs, with leading businesses taking genuine action to demonstrate the solutions available to achieve net-zero carbon emissions. Governments are required to step up their efforts, go above and beyond to create better buildings that will create a better tomorrow, and define a new business as usual.
